Description
The KFD2-STC5-Ex2 is a 2-channel isolated barrier from Pepperl+Fuchs’s K-System range, purpose-built to power and interface with SMART transmitters in intrinsic safety applications. It supplies loop power to 2-wire and 3-wire SMART transmitters located in Zone 0/1/2 or Division 1/2 hazardous areas, and can also work with 2-wire SMART current sources — transferring the 0/4–20mA analog signal through to the safe-area control side as an isolated current value.
A key feature of this barrier is its bidirectional digital communication support: superimposed HART, BRAIN, or Foxboro digital signals on the input loop are transferred transparently between the hazardous and safe areas, so smart-transmitter configuration and diagnostics tools can be used without extra wiring. Each channel’s safe-area output can be independently configured for current sink or current source mode, giving flexibility to match different DCS/PLC input card requirements. Removable terminals with integrated HART communicator test points simplify commissioning and maintenance, and an internal resistor is available for applications where the control-circuit HART communication resistance is too low. Powered via 24V DC through the Power Rail system, and rated up to SIL 2 (per IEC/EN 61508), the KFD2-STC5-Ex2 is well suited for pressure, level, flow, and temperature transmitter signal conditioning in hazardous-area process plants, including oil & gas, petrochemical, and marine/offshore installations.
